A little bit of optimism for those left behind

For the folks still laboring in the trenches at newspapers comes this bit of optimism from Fading to Black.

And I will admit, that for me, there is no excitement and satisfaction as fulfilling as that when I found a juicy or unusual story that I could not wait to investigate and tell.

I get the attraction.

I get the attraction. I get the thrill of a great story.

What the writer of "Hunkering Down" doesn't get is not everyone gets the choice to stay or go.

And even when you have the choice, you have to remember what Patrick Evan says in the piece:

"Because there is always someone younger and cheaper who would love to do your job."

I agree with MCW. Also, not everyone employed by the newspaper is in it for the 'thrill'. They're in it right now to try to continue to survive.

The FJ is slave driving those that work in the PDC - and none of these part-time people have a choice.

At least the people in the PDC are being paid by the hour while standing around waiting for plates from GR or whatever the problem is that minute.

The parking lot full of drivers are not being paid to stand there and wait, they're just standing there.
