How not to respond to a TV news interview

Taryn Asher, a former ABC-12 reporter now working in Detroit, was always a formidable competitor locally. She tied into a good one with the arrest of an Oxford councilman recently.

Trust me, television reporters love a good confrontation and boy does the councilman's wife give Taryn one. I do have a little sympathy for the wife who, for some reason, felt it necessary to come out and get in the face of the television crew.

The husband should have faced the music himself rather than put his wife and family in the front lines.

Here's the report:

Taryn Asher is a snarky presence, for sure. Love the "falsely accusing us of involving her children who were nowhere to be found." Gee, you're camped out ON THEIR SIDEWALK so they are scared to come outside... The "public" sidewalk, as Taryn puts it, as she learned in 3rd grade law school. The sidewalk is public for passing through. You can't stop someone from walking past your house on it, but neither would someone be within their rights to camp out in front of your house as long as they stayed on the sidewalk. If someone lurked on Taryn's sidewalk for no reason within her property lines, I bet she'd have the cops move them along.

I think this woman has been dealing with alcohol problems for a long time in her family (how long do you cover up for someone or enable them to do this? My parents did with my sister until they died). I believe the anger boiled over because of the PUBLIC revelation of his indiscretion with another woman. This was probably something she was able to keep secret unlike the public drinking. Or maybe she never knew until this police report was revealed. It was not the first time for his cheating I am sure, but it was the first time it was announced for the 6 county area to hear. For that, my heart breaks for her. She has some big decisions to make in her life for herself and her kids. I hope she can maintain some dignity as her husband appears to have lost all his.

I miss Taryn. Channel 12 news has become so tabloid in recent months.I love Leslie and the weather tho. Always a delight.

I'm with you Jan, this is a difficult issue and now it is very open, which makes it even more difficult.

Taryn is actually a good, aggressive reporter. She is doing what her station wants her to do, pursue a story to the end. We can disagree with the result, but her bosses are smiling tonight with the footage of a scorned woman and her neighbor attacking a reporter.

It is news theater at its best.

Oxford Village Council? A long way down from chasing Don Williamson around.

Since 2 is a Fox affiliate, it was picked up on the national feed. However, sneering Taryn did not get any air time, and the panel was surprisingly sympathetic to the wife, while saying "the reporter" was just doing her job.
