The deck chairs continue the rearrangement

News that Paul Keep, editor of the Muskegon Chronicle is moving over to the Grand Rapids Press and some other folks are moving to Muskegon.

Here's the Grand Rapids story.

This will open up a whole new page of comics for Paul to work on.

The folks in GR are ecstatic over the change. You can read into that what you want and you'll be right.

Paul's not a bad guy. He pretty much left us alone in the newsroom which was good for some of us.

Paul's not bad. He came across as a bit of a milquetoast while in Bay City, but 10 years and two successors later up here, he looks like Joseph Pulitzer to the third power.

Yeah, but his motto was, "Why pay someone to write about anything you can get for free in a wire story." Helped make the Journal less relevant during his tenure.

Paul hired me at Bay City from outside Booth and was fond of asking me to tell the Boothies who never worked for any other chain just how good they had it there.

More musical chairs has been played with reporters. Two veteran reporters in Bay City were shipped down to Saginaw and a longtime Saginaw reporter brought up to Bay City. Are they being set up for failure by having to start from scratch developing sources and stories? I can hear it now. "You just haven't made the transition the way we hoped you would."
