My stepdaughter sent along a story out of the Christian Science Monitor (online) about the bulldozing of Flint.
In the Christian Science story they credit/blame Dan Kildee for the idea. But last week everyone was all over Rush Limbaugh for suggesting it. What gives?
It's either a good idea, or it is not, but would someone straighten out who the idea actually belongs to.
Dan Kildee, a great county treasurer, I believe had the idea to clear out pockets of bad homes in Flint and create some pleasurable green space. I'm giving the credit to Dan.

Here's what happened:
In an interview with a UK paper, Dan Kildee referenced a Brookings Institution study that mentioned a number of U.S. cities (including Flint and Detroit) that were losing population and revenue. The study said a way to address this might be to, in essence, "shrink" the city by bulldozing abandoned neighborhoods, turning them back to nature and housing the remaining residents in a smaller footprint. This smaller footprint would make it more cost-effective to provide police and fire protection, lighting, snow removal, mowing, etc.
Rush Limbaugh referenced the UK story when he brought up the subject a couple of weeks ago and added his two-cents' worth, taking a stab at Democrats and unions, etc.
