Editors, and how bad ones are ruining the newspaper business

Why do newspapers still think it is a good idea to give away their product for free? It is obvious that this is not working.
First of all, this isn't a Booth venture. Booth no longer exists. It's the MLive Media Group.
Second, MLive isn't giving anything away. Bridge is giving its content to MLive. Bridge gets access to MLive's large audience while MLive gets in-depth content that to beef up its site and papers.
