Some news makes me want to barf

If this is the 'new' journalism, I'm glad I'm not around for it. Admittedly, this is the opinion of an ancient curmudgeon who still prefers old school reporting.

And there will be a lot more of this kind of reporting with this 'new' model.

What will they think of next? Perhaps giving cash bonuses to reporters who produce tons of meaningless copy to create as many "hits" on the Internet as possible. Watch for it.

Cash bonuses for most copy, good or not, or for stories that get the most online clicks? Already happening. I would not be surprised if this is part of the Gaydou-Sharp model of paying employees at the ... (wait for it) ... NEW ... M ... LIVE!

Today annarbor.com had an article about a local homeless encampment called Camp Take Notice. They interviewed someone who had lost her job after a "local publisher" closed. Want to make a bet who that local publisher was? I'd bet it was the Ann Arbor News, since I've met several other people who lost jobs with the News and are now applying for food stamps...
