A reader of the blog asks, why not newspapers?

It's been a mystery to me since the Journal went on the Internet why the paper hasn't found a way to make a buck off the online news.
On occassion, I or other reporters would raise the issue at editorial meetings only to be patted on the head like children and told it was not an issue.

I can relate. I used to work in radio and whenever I'd bring to the attention of the boss things that desperately needed to be done (updating years-old promos, updating the program schedule for both the studio and the website, getting the shorter, more concise domain name up and running, reprogramming the building security code to something other than the default, etc), I'd get the same tight, condescending smile. Radio station looks to be about 10 years from going under. Have never understood why some of the most imcompetent people imaginable get put into positions of authority. A friend who used to work at the Flint Journal used to joke that reporters who couldn't write would simply get promoted to editor.
the difference between the cub scouts and most of the media today?
The cub scouts have adult leadership with common-sense skills.
The Journal's website is a total mess. I told the Publisher years ago that he needed to get away from that whole Mlive set up and do the "flintjournal.com" right..
Mlive looks like it was designed in 1998. It's boring to look at and confusing to get around. I'm always going around and around from page to page looking for what I want to see. The forums set up are even worse. Hobby websites with less than 20 posters per day have better websites than the Journal..
I'll take that as a compliment.
