A persistent raccoon has my oldest son, William, a little on edge.
He asked me if any readers of my blog could help him with a non-lethal way to rid his small yard of a raccoon that continues to visit his back yard in Aptos, California.
I suggested picking it up, cuddling it and showing it some love, but he rejected that idea.
So if you have a favorite remedy for discouraging visits by raccoons please leave them on here.
Because William lives in a mobile home park, please do not suggest any solutions that involve weapons or love.
Thanks.

HaHaHa. Im not a sissy. I asked you if you had any ideas about getting the raccoon to move on. The photo you put on this blog is not the coon that visits Taylor (my dog) and I. This is like a raccoon/bear. Yes, they live in moblehome parks like mine, I asked if you had any ideas. I dont want the world to know that a wild raccoon startles me. Thats all. Dont block me.
You are not blocked. You are not a sissy. I'm just trying to help.
You live in a very nice mobile home park and that's probably why the raccoons are stopping by, they like nice places.
It came back again and starteled me yet again. Taylor (the dog) really does not like anything in her yard. How do I ask it to move on? Yes it is cute, but it needs to leave me and Taylor alone.
As I mentioned to you on the phone, I think it is time to call Animal Control officers and have them live trap the critter and move it to a better location for it and you.
That is my suggestion anyway.
Dad
Uh, just don't live-trap it and take it out the "country," where it will be a nuisance to somebody else. The "country" has all the vermin it can handle.
OK, Outback, you have a point. So what to do with a live raccoon. I know, put it on the next cruise ship leaving Tampa.
I once live trapped a huge rat in a barn and then spent many minutes trying to drown it in a bucket.
Will a zoo take a raccoon? Inquiring minds want to know.
Zoos dont need raccoons. They have lots of critters. I just dont want it here. It might have rabies, or some other creepy crawly that would hurt my Taylor or myself. Thanks everyone for your tips, good or bad. I thank you Pop.
It worhed! I got on. The critter is still coming by and I still want it to move on. Thanks Pop. Keep up the good work. Your Eldest
Hi, Jim:
While perusing your blog, I noticed that your son is looking for a way to get rid of a raccoon.
I bought one of these a few years ago. Here is an e-bay link. It's actually cheaper than calling someone.

I have caught three raccoons trashing stuff around my house. Each time I placed the trap out within a few hours I had one. I made sure they were raccoons first. Didn't want to catch a skunk.
Dog food made a good bait. I then transported it into the boonies (Oxford is a good location) and let it go.
